REF: 02 — OUR STORY

Why We Exist

Every Curl Tells a Story

Too many Black children grow up hearing that their natural hair is "too much": too wild, too difficult, too different. The Curl Project was born to flip that story.

Founder Tumi Owolabi saw a clear gap: families facing financial barriers, children who felt ashamed of their texture, caregivers who wanted to help but didn't know how. She decided to do something about it.

"When a child looks in the mirror after a session and truly sees themselves. That moment changes everything." Tumi Owolabi, Founder

REF: 03 — OUR SERVICES

Our Services

Three Pillars of Care

Everything we do is built to help children feel confident, celebrated, and cared for.

01

Free Hair Styling

Professional, loving sessions tailored to each child's curl pattern: braids, twists, cornrows, locs, and more. We work exclusively with natural hair, no extensions. Every style celebrates the hair your child was born with, at no charge.

02

Hair Education

We teach children and caregivers about their specific hair type, products that work, and how to build sustainable natural hair routines at home.

03

Confidence Building

Beyond the style: affirming experiences that celebrate each child's identity and send them home knowing their natural hair is a crown.

Founder & Visionary

Meet Tumi Owolabi

Founder · Community Leader · Advocate

Tumi Owolabi is a Nigerian college student who launched The Curl Project, Inc. in May 2025 after observing a shared challenge across both Nigerian and American communities: Black children growing up without consistent access to quality, confidence centered natural hair care.

Growing up between two cultures, Tumi understood how deeply hair, identity, and self-esteem are connected. She built The Curl Project, Inc. to create a space where textured hair is embraced, understood, and celebrated, and where no family ever has to pay for that experience.
